National Historic Ships launches new publication

SS Robin - returning to the Thames after major conservation works

The newly launched publication entitled Conserving Historic Vessels is a must read for anyone with an interest in understanding the conservation of historic vessels.

The book, the third volume in a series of practical guidance books, is full of beautiful illustrations and photographs which accompany the extensively researched articles and case studies. The use of modern design makes it simple and easy to use.

The 200 pages have been extensively researched by the Advisory Committee on National Historic Ships and its appointed consultants. It is hoped that the book will become an invaluable source of information for historic ship owners, funders, heritage organisations and maritime associations around the world.

A number of historic ships feature in the new publication including SS Robin - the world's oldest complete steamship and London's most important London-built ship.

The book is also core text to a series of new accredited modules in historic vessel conservation techniques which are currently under development, as part of an HLF funded pilot scheme, in partnership with the Waterways Trust.

John Penrose MP Minister for Tourism and Heritage said "this excellent manual is one of the ways in which we can best secure the future of the UK's historic vessels, which are evocative treasures of our maritime heritage."

Copies can be purchased online here.
