Heritage jobs: DCMS announces two Commissioner posts

Opportunities at DCMS

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is looking for two new Commissioners of English Heritage to promote and care for the historic environment.

If you have expertise in either Education/Community Engagement, or Local Authority Representation, then either of these roles could be right for you.

English Heritage is the government’s statutory adviser on the historic environment and the Commission is its governing body. It comprises the Chair, Baroness Andrews OBE, and up to 16 Commissioners and is the only body in the governance structure which can make binding decisions.

For these two posts, applications are invited from people with:

•     an understanding of English Heritage’s work and of the wider environment in which English Heritage operates

•     a commitment to its aims and objectives

•     an ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgment.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday July 6 2010. Interviews to be held on Monday July 26.

English Heritage is also currently running a web-based survey as part of consultation on its National Heritage Protection Plan.

It is welcoming the thoughts, queries, comments and advice of heritage workers upon the development and nature of the plan to develop and a more co-ordinated and collaborated approach to protection. The survey runs until June 30 2010.
