Steamship SS Robin to take to the skies

SS Robin

Just a reminder to all: Come watch SS Robin - the last remaining steam-coaster in the world - be 'airlifted' onto her new home, a 150-feet long pontoon.

The lift will take place in Lowestoft, Suffolk on Monday 28 June, starting at 9.30am.

The newly restored ship will then be transformed into a floating museum, set to open to the public in 2012.

SS Robin, a classic Victorian coaster, is an irreplaceable member of the National Historic Fleet, of the type immortalised in John Masefield's much loved
poem 'Cargoes'.

SS RobinĀ  was brought to Lowestoft in 2008 from her home berth in London to undergo essential conservation work and repairs to her riveted structure

For marine heritage enthusiasts across the UK, come watch her river launch, take photographs and meet the people behind this amazing maritime restoration project.

Location for public viewing: Peto Way (near Lidl).
