Fifies leaving St Abbs Harbour - 2011 flagship was awarded to Fifie SWAN

Calling all operational historic vessels - get 2012 off to a great start and apply for the prestigious Flagship of the Year Award 2012.

National Historic Ships is encouraging individual vessels on the National Register of Historic Vessels (NRHV) to apply for the annual Flagship of the Year award. The award is aimed at supporting historic vessels in operational condition which raise their profile by attending festivals and public events.

The successful applicant is awarded flagship status and will be aided with a maximum grant of £1,000 to assist with the costs of taking part in an major national or international event.

The 2011 flagship status was awarded to the Fife SWAN which, when launched from Hay & Co.'s yard in Lerwick in 1900, was the largest fishing boat in Shetland at the time. The historic boat was relaunched in May 1996 after major restoration and began operating commercially two years later and sails around the Shetlands, coast of Norway and Faroe Islands every year.

For more information or to apply for the award visit the National Historic Ships website. Closing Date is 31st March 2012. Good Luck!
